PlantClue Privacy Policy
Last updated July 30, 2026.
The short version. PlantClue has no accounts. We never ask for your name or email. We store the photos you scan, the diagnoses you get, and the plants you save, so the app can show you your history and track whether a plant is recovering. Location data is stripped from every photo before it is stored. You can permanently delete everything from the Settings screen, at any time, without asking us.
Who we are
PlantClue is made by LiteSapphire LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. If you have a question about anything on this page, email [email protected].
What we collect
- Photos you scan, along with the short answers you give about the plant's light, watering, and symptoms.
- Diagnosis results and plant records — the verdict returned for each scan, and any plants you save to track over time.
- An anonymous device identifier. On first launch the app generates a random identifier and stores a matching token on your device. This is what associates your scans with your phone. It is not linked to you, your Apple ID, or any other service.
- Subscription status — whether you have an active subscription, handled through Apple and our payments provider. We never see your payment details.
- Basic app analytics and crash reports — a small fixed set of events such as a scan starting or finishing, and technical error reports, used to find bugs and see where the app is failing people.
What we do not collect
- No name, email address, phone number, or account of any kind.
- No advertising identifiers, and no ad networks. We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- No contacts, no precise location, no access to your photo library beyond the images you explicitly choose to scan.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.
How your photos are handled
When you scan a plant, the photo is resized on your device and sent to our server over an encrypted connection. Before the image is stored, embedded metadata, including any GPS coordinates your camera recorded is stripped out. Photos are kept in a private storage bucket that is not publicly readable; when the app needs to display one of your photos, our server issues a temporary link that expires shortly after.
To produce a diagnosis, the photo and your answers are sent to a third-party AI provider, which analyzes the image and returns a structured result. We only use providers whose commercial terms state that content sent through their interface is not used to train their models.
Who processes your data
We use a small number of service providers to run PlantClue. Each one only receives what it needs to do its job:
- An AI model provider — analyzes the photo and returns the diagnosis.
- Cloud database and file storage providers — hold your scans, plant records, and photos.
- A hosting provider — runs our server.
- Payment and subscription providers, including Apple and Google — handle purchases and subscription status.
- Error reporting and analytics providers — receive crash reports and anonymous usage events.
All of them are bound by their own agreements with us to use this data only to provide their service.
How long we keep it
Your scans, photos, and plant records are kept for as long as you keep them. There is no automatic expiry, because the app's recovery tracking works by comparing a plant against its earlier scans.
When you tap Delete my data in Settings, every scan, plant record, and photo tied to your device is permanently removed from our database and storage. This is immediate and cannot be undone. Residual copies may persist briefly in our providers' encrypted backups before those backups are rotated and overwritten.
Your choices
Because PlantClue has no accounts, deletion is entirely self-serve: the Settings screen removes everything without you needing to contact us or prove who you are. If you would like to ask a question about your data instead, email [email protected]. Note that we usually have no way to identify which data is yours unless you can supply your device's identifier, which is why we have made the delete button the primary path.
You can also revoke the app's camera and photo permissions at any time in your device settings, and manage or cancel your subscription through your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings.
Children
PlantClue is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how PlantClue handles your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app.
